Round 1 - Panthers Select Tetairoa McMillan at Pick 8
45catfan replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
McShay thought it was a reach, but conceded due to the lack of blue chip WRs Tet was going high anyway. He wasn't a fan of the Scourton pick either at where we picked in round two in the trade up. He felt it was a reach because we passed on getting a better EDGE prospect in round1. His draft evaluation (in this particular episode I watched) was not about grades but fits and value. He didn't think our first two picks met the value of where selected them. He really liked Ransom pick (I think we all do) and thought the Evans selection was sneaky good. -

If Bryce doesn’t produce, we moving on?
HaricotVert replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Too much focus on BY9. Bryce had us winning against KC, TB, and Philly and the D couldnt stop on their final drives. Yes he needs to keep showing growth but putting the teams record on him misses out on how much he grew last season. -
Round 1 - Panthers Select Tetairoa McMillan at Pick 8

I once heard, and have never been able to get it out of my mind, that you are solid if you draft 2 starters (immediate). TMac is a day 1 starter. Scourton is a day 1 starter. I think Ransom has a good chance of starting on day 1. He has the tools the Panthers covet. Princely will probably rotate in, so I won't count him. Etienne will rotate in. Cam Jackson will probably rotate in. Evans will rotate in at TE, if he does not start. -
UDFA - Ryan Fitzgerald K Florida State
kungfoodude replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well he was 11 for 14 from 50+ in his career. -
Smitty has little man syndrome, even in his evaluations. It seems like every receiver over 6'2 he has to belittle or take down a notch. He is a classic example of not being able to take emotion out of evaluation. He builds up the little, tough guys because he relates to them. But he looks at the fluid, effortless big guys as being overrated or not hard working. He's usually wrong about a lot of his assessments because he can't get outside of his own head.
-
I think we need to draft a qb next year regardless of how Young plays. Either by drafting his backup or replacement. Hopefully his backup.

Yeah even I am like Smitty... shut up and get a good divorce lawyer

If we get the same Bryce that started the first two games of last season, they have to consider making a significant investment at the position again. If we get the Bryce that played the last seven games of the season, then take the fifth-year bonus option leading into his fourth season so that there's plenty of time to negotiate a second deal.

UDFA - Ryan Fitzgerald K Florida State
Jay Roosevelt replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
I really thought he'd be one of three kickers drafted. I had him ranked as my #2 kicker so getting him as a UDFA is great value. -
They are trying to build around him but it's just an unimpressive build from every angle. Still looks like a team picking in the top 10 again next year. Getting a new DC would have been a great step and help for him but they doubled down again on Evero. Better than Fritz build but nothing impressive at all with this team still today after another offseason of chances.

Are the Panthers still coddling Bryce?
HaricotVert replied to Jackson113.2's topic in Carolina Panthers
Too many folks have tied their disdain for the Teppers around BYs neck and he is going to have to be some version of Cam/Brady/Mahomes to ever get them to change their minds. -

Round 2 - Panthers Select Nic Scourton at pick 51
Icege replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
He really likes to slide the edge that draws the double teams in those situations to create more confusion for opposing OLs as well which makes life even easier for the blitzing LBs & safeties. Also, with the addition of Ransom as @Basbear pointed out, that gives the team a third safety that can potentially contribute right away on both special teams and the defense. I wouldn't be surprised to see Evero march him out there in three safety personnel groupings. I keep reminding myself that the team is one more offseason away but it's really hard to not be excited about seeing how they develop this season. As much as I want W's, I'm more interested in seeing last year's draft class take the leap that Bryce did in their second year. -

Gapanthersfan replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’ve come around to being a Bryce defender. Really big step. Not many players dig deep and make the post benching turnaround he did. 40 burger in ATL. XL dropped a DIME to possibly beat the SB champs. Took KC to the wire. Not like the defense did him any favors. So he’s got moxie and dropped a lot of dimes to finish the season out. Continues? I think so. And if he doesn’t… Haven’t y’all learned there’s always worse? We’re good at worse. Really good at it. It’s all we’ve seen since Cam. This team is finally starting to build something. Stockpiling promising talent and it may take a bit of time. Building team culture through winning some damn games is huge. Most building teams go .500 the year before they turn in to serious contenders the following year. Don’t expect more than that this year although it’d be nice to do better. Josh Allens and Mahomes don’t exactly grow on trees. -
Give me Jarvis tomorrow night.

Panthers reach deal with Muhsin 'Moose' Muhammad III

It's going to be tough to make this roster at WR. Our emphasis on the position is interesting. That said, I love the guy as a prospect. He had some dominant games. Coming out of 2022 he was a highly coveted prospect. A&M did not have a very good passer in his tenure there. I also think he fit what Jimbo wanted to do a lot better than Elko. Hopefully, that's a good thing, as Jimbo runs a much more pro-style system. Potential high ceiling UDFA is what it's all about this time of year. -

Morgan & Canales have put in the work to fix the Oline & turned over a lot of rocks to hopefully improve the WR room. Now is the time for BY to put in the effort to improve & fix his flaws. Despite what some believe he has much to get better on. When his feet are right, he is top 10 QB, if not, a bottom 10. He just does not have the arm to overcome bad feet. He along with all of the other 1-2-3 year players need to be working on their game the whole off season, when the path to success is put down. Canales & all the coaching staff need to be pushing all the team to the extent the CBA allows. The last thing Bryce needs is to sit during preseason games. -

I think that room has bodies but plenty of opportunities to take a spot. Lots of bodies but it's quantity over quality for sure.
