General Draft Rumors/Speculation Thread
poorboysrev replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah I’m interested to see what the FA’s do. I’m just tired of watching teams run the ball right down our throats for years now. I haven’t seen Evero show the ability to change his scheme to talent available. I’ve only ever seen these D’s work with a monster in the middle. Shay Tuttle hasn’t shown he can hold that down so if Brown goes down we’re in trouble if we don’t have that kinda dude. Plus he’s big and big guys need to rotate ha. We can use help in several areas. As long as we don’t take some RAS metrics wonder pass rusher with no production I’m good. We have a lot of picks. Let’s go -
Comment from Dane Brugler regarding his final mock draft: "Honestly, I hope it doesn’t play out this way — I want chaos, and there’s a good chance we get it this year." A good chance for "chaos" Brugler doesn't really elaborate any further, and for the record his final mock is pretty standard (Panthers take Jalon Walker). Still, the comment about there being a "good chance" at things going a little squirrely caught my attention. That would certainly be...interesting

I'm team Warren too. I accepted the Bryce pick, I can't accept not giving him players out of the backfield and over the middle to get it out quick too. I've been talking about those points since we drafted him. Creating an offense around old slow AT basically the polar opposite of how I would build a Bryce Young O. The definition of the Tepper era is random parts put together and it's supposed to somehow work. I still just see random parts and no real vision on O. If we wanted Bryce (an anomaly), you have to cater to how he plays. Not just saying, well if he was good enough, he could make it work in anything. If you asked young Cam to play like Tom Brady and gave him older Brady weapons (small quick game players)......Cam's career would have ended quick. Cam was an anomoly. Bryce is. Just different ends of the spectrum. You got to cater to their style of play.

General Draft Rumors/Speculation Thread

We spent more for Tershawn Wharton (54M over 3 yrs) than any other free agent and he will line up opposite Brown as a DE in a 3-4. He is known more for his pass rush than run stopping. We signed NT Bobby Brown as a run stopper (21M over 3 yrs) and have Shy Tuttle behind him). We signed Pat Jones as an Edge for 20M for 2 yrs (7 sacks with only one start in '24). We are really thin at safety but that is generally not a value position. So who knows how the staff prioritize the D. -
According to McShay, the Saints are very interested in Mykel Williams and see him as the heir to Cam Jordan.

No it doesn't. But, it is what it is. I was born in the early 90's so I grew up with the Panthers. I've grown to expect disappointment in who they pick. Times it worked out were with Star, KK, and Luke. I was fine with Cam but obviously at the time, no one knew really what to expect of how his game would translate. Anyone who watches college football has seen Georgia play because they are on, all the time. As an App State fan, I can say that in a vacuum, I was probably as impressed with Mike Green and Josiah Stewart, as well as Nate Johnson (who just transferred from App to Mizzou), as I was Georgia's ends. They are physical freaks as you'd expect, but the results just don't align with their measureables and who they were playing next to. Give me Warren, take a DT in the 2nd, Josiah Stewart in the third, Restrepo or Skattebo in the 4th. Then maybe take another flyer on a DT later and another pass rusher in the 6th. We can't give up what we gave up for Bryce and not at least give him a tight end. I will die on that hill that Warren should be the pick, even though I know he won't be.

Thank you for stating the difference, because it’s a big one. Personally I’d prefer another Bobby Brown/haloti ngata/Kenneth Grant big boy 34 NT. This D has to have that to have a chance. But in a 34 front if we draft Mason we’d be putting DB and Mason 34 DE and BB in the middle. Hard not to like that too -

If the Jags don't want Jeanty, Dallas needs to trade with us for cheaper and still get him. I think the Raiders have too many holes to take a RB that early. -
Chicago, Miami or Dallas. If a trade is gonna happen, it will be one of those 3.
-
That’s always the problem with this team, we sell low and buy high. I’m fully expecting if we trade down we’ll get fleeced. The trade I’m looking out for is with Seattle for #18 and #52 so they can move up and take an OT if they fall.

Pre-Draft thoughts from Diana Russini

But not the dumbest, somehow. The Browns actually gave Deshaun Watson a fully guaranteed contract; something even Tepper's desperate-for-a-QB ass wouldn't do. -

I can't wait for tonight I'm soo excited -
I just don't think the quality players will come at the top this year. I think the middle 1st to 2nd could come out in the inevitable re-mock in a few years. All of the prospects I actually see value in are not expected to be top 10 picks this year. The present bias keeps people from deviating or being a poster child for messing up projections. The fact that almost half the teams use the media blather to justify their drafts explains a lot of why there is so much failure in NFL drafts.
