Every fantasy football season has players who simply cost too much on draft day.
That doesn't necessarily mean they're bad players. In many cases, they're outstanding NFL talents. The problem is value. If you're selecting a player at or near his ceiling, there's very little room for profit, and that's often how fantasy championships are lost.
Using our latest fantasy rankings, ADP data, and player outlooks, these are three players we're more cautious about than the consensus heading into the 2026 season.

Derrick Henry continues to defy Father Time, but eventually every running back hits the wall.
We still rank Henry as one of fantasy football's better running backs, but selecting him as a top-25 overall player comes with considerable risk. He's entering another season with significant career mileage, and history hasn't been kind to running backs with this many touches.
Henry can absolutely finish as an RB1 again, but fantasy managers should understand they're paying for near-peak production rather than buying at a discount.
Why We're Cautious: Age, workload, and limited room to outperform an already aggressive draft price.

Bucky Irving has become one of this offseason's biggest hype trains.
The problem isn't the player—it's the draft cost.
Our rankings value Irving as a solid RB2, but an ADP of 37 means fantasy managers are selecting him much earlier than we're comfortable with. There's still competition for touches, and expectations have climbed rapidly over the last several months.
When a player's draft price rises faster than his projected workload, caution is usually the smarter approach.

Few players illustrate the difference between hype and value better than Makai Lemon.
He's one of the more exciting young receivers in fantasy football, but fantasy managers are drafting him nearly 25 spots ahead of where we currently have him ranked.
That's a sizeable gap.
While Lemon certainly has upside, fantasy football is about minimizing risk while maximizing value. At his current ADP, you're paying for a breakout season before it has happened.

Being overrated doesn't mean a player will have a disappointing season.
Instead, it means fantasy managers are paying more than we believe the player is currently worth. Winning fantasy leagues is all about finding value, and that often means avoiding players whose average draft position has climbed beyond their realistic production.
Sometimes the smartest move on draft day isn't making the flashy pick—it's letting someone else overpay.
Every draft has players who become popular offseason targets, but popularity doesn't always translate into fantasy value.
Based on our current rankings and draft board, Derrick Henry, Bucky Irving, and Makai Lemon are three players we'd be cautious about drafting at their current ADPs. All three have the talent to produce, but their draft prices leave little room to exceed expectations.
As always, fantasy championships aren't won by drafting the biggest names—they're won by consistently finding value. Let the draft come to you, trust your board, and don't be afraid to pass on an overhyped player if the price isn't right.
